The play-in games are over and today's the day the Little League World Series begins, with teams from across the US and around the world competing to find out who's the best. The US teams include:
--Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores (Grosse Pointe Woods, MI) Little League representing the Great Lakes region,
--Mid-Island Little League (Staten Island, NY) representing the Great Lakes region,
--Grandview Little League (Des Moines, IA) representing the Midwest region,
--Coventry Little League (Coventry, RI) representing the New England region,
--Coeur d'Alene Little League (Coeur d'Alene, ID) representing the Northwest region,
--Peachtree City American Little League (Peachtree City, GA) representing the Southeast region,
--Post Oak Little League (Houston, TX) representing the Southwest region, and
--Honolulu Little League (Hawaii) representing the West region.
Today's first games pit Mid-Island vs Grandview at 3 pm (EST) and Coventry vs Post Oak at 7 pm (EST); all games are on ESPN.

CLAIRE CLARK, a 59-year-old Canadian woman, lost her finger after getting her wedding ring caught on the edge of a slide at the West Edmonton Mall World Waterpark in Edmonton, Alberta.
As the ring caught on the slide, part of the bone and much of the skin were stripped from her finger. Kind of put a damper on the day, which was supposed to be a celebration of her granddaughter's third birthday.
