Off and running: President Trump officially launched his 2020 Campaign last night in Orlando, with a crowd of 100,000 people watching. His new slogan: KEEP America Great (The old one was "Make America Great Again," in case you've forgotten, or blocked it out of your mind). In his speech, no new proposals, but he did manage to slam Democrats by calling them an "angry, left-wing mob."
As long as we're on politics, in case you care: ALYSSA MILANO says she's not endorsing any of the 24 democratic candidates yet. Probably OK, since the first Democratic debates --which will have 20 of the candidates during a series of debates over two nights-- will start a week from tonight (Wed, Jun 26) in Miami.
Might as well get out "Money, money, money, money" by Pink Floyd: Facebook is starting a "cryptocurrency" like bitcoin, called "Libra." But unlike Bitcoin, the value won't fluctuate because it's going to be backed by real money, like dollars or Euros. The Facebook folks say the new Libra currency wil allow you to send the money to places around the world and to people who don't have bank accounts.
So how would you get the cash? Apparently it would live in a "digital wallet" and you'd be able to access it through Facebook messenger or a similar app. No word yet on how somebody without a bank account could receive it, since they probably wouldn't be on Facebook or have a digital phone with apps.
David Marcus, who used to be president of PayPal, is now with Facebook and will be running things for Libra.
Of course, lots of people are also wondering how Facebook, which has been under fire for things like mishandling user data, will be able to cope with such a massive undertaking. This year's Emmy Award nominations will be announced Tuesday morning, Jul 16, by comedians, D'ARCY CARDEN and KEN JEONG, but people are already wondering wether the Emmys will have a host at all --like this year's Oscars, which went host-less. Nobody's talking... about the possibility yet.
Whoops! Yesterday afternoon over in Jolly Olde England, PRINCE WILLIAM and his wife DUCHESS KATE, were traveling from London to Windsor when one of the cops escorting the Royals struck an 80-year-old woman with his motorbike. She's reportedly in serious but stable condition.
