Despite the fun you get from watching folks at the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest every Fourth of July, not all eating contests end well --a man died after participating in a Taco-eating contest Tuesday night at the minor league baseball game between the Fresno Grizzlies and Memphis Redbirds in Fresno, CA.
41-year-old DANA HUTCHINGS collapsed after the contest, was examined by paramedics immediately and rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, but died.
Chukchansi Park, where the eating competition and baseball game took place, is also the site for the upcoming World Taco Eating Championship this Saturday, (Aug 17) during the team's annual Taco Truck Throwdown event. We'll see whether the event still goes on in the wake of the tragedy. The Pumpkin craze continues: Spam is putting out Pumpkin Spice Spam just in time for Thanksgiving. The new version of the old favorite will be in sale beginning Mon, Sep 23, and available on Spam.com and Walmart.com. You've been warned.
And yet more food news: As you probably know, there are six different Oscar Meyer Wienermodiles currently traveling across the US-of-A, each staffed by (ahem) "Hotdoggers" handing out goodies to folks at supermarkets or public events.
New to the Wienermobile, however, is a new treat called an Oscar Mayer hot dog ice cream sandwich, or "Ice Dog sandwich". In New York City's Bryant Park the other day, they rolled 'em out to passersby, and revealed the ingredients: candied hot dog bits, hot dog sweet cream, spicy dijon gelato, all topped with a cookie "bun."
In case you're interested, you can get the Wienermobile app for your iPhone, iPad or Android device, which features a 360-degree driving game plus updates on the location of closest Wienermobile to you. -
