THE LETTERMEN will be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this morning at 11:30 am (Pacific) to mark the climax of their recording career. Helping unveil their star will be actress and fellow Walk of Famer CONNIE STEVENS as well as their manager. The Lettermen have over 75 albums --lots of them gold-- and some of their hits include “When I Fall In Love”, “Come Back Silly Girl”, “Theme From A Summer Place”, “Goin’ Out Of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”, “Put Your Head On My Shoulder”, “Hurt So Bad”, and “Shangri-La”.
Today is also the day that they’re holding a public memorial service for KOBE BRYANT and his daughter, GIANNA, at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets to the event will benefit the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.
The NAACP Image Awards were handed out over the weekend, and winners included rapper LIZZO as Entertainer of the Year as well as an award for her music video for “Juice.” Host ANTHONY ANDERSON won for his work on ABC’s “black-ish.” TRACEE ELLIS ROSS also won comedy actress of the year for “black-ish” as well.
BEYONCE’s “Homecoming” album picked up the Best Album award; LIL NAS X was Outstanding New Artist, BRUNO MARS picked up Outstanding Male and BEYONCE won a second, third and fourth award as Outstanding Female Artist and won for Outstanding Traditional and Contemporary songs as well.
Variety reports the “Friends” cast is reuniting for “an exclusive untitled unscripted special” to be broadcast on HBO Max. If you’re one of those people who loves A-HA’s song, “Take On Me,” you’ll be excited to discover they’re getting a documentary made about them. “A-ha: The Movie,” will be out in theaters on Nov. 26, and accompanied by a live-streaming event of never-before-seen footage from the band’s videos.
“Take On Me” recently became the second song to ever hit one billion views on YouTube, following GUNS N’ ROSES’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” which passed the one-billion-views mark last fall.
While we’re on the music beat, BILLIE EILISH’s “No Time To Die” just became the second-ever James Bond theme song to reach the top of the UK singles chart. The only other 007 song to hit the top of the British charts was SAM SMITH’s “Writing's On The Wall” from “Spectre” back in 2015.
Finally… and you'll love this one... the folks at Snopes.com say that after a satirical article was published on a Facebook page, various sources picked it up as legitimate news --a parent telling his son not to pop the bubbles on a sheet of bubble wrap, because the bubble wrap was made in China and the air inside the bubbles might contain Coronavirus molecules.
