And the Coronavirus stories continue...
Some good news-- a couple of Holland America cruise ships with sick passengers were allowed to dock in Florida; the Rotterdam and the Zaandam. Four people have died on the Zaandam, and multiple others have either had flu-like symptoms or tested positive for the coronavirus.
And here's a highlight --CNN reports the Southeast China city of Shenzhen has become the first city in the country to ban Chinese from eating cats and dogs. The ban takes effect May first, so there's still a bit of time to get that last minute pet in the oven. And as far as other animals --you can still eat them in China, including pigs, cattle, sheep, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, and quail. Thanks for asking.
One person who's gotten his share of fame during the coronovirus epidemic is Dr. ANTHONY FAUCI, and the Hartford Courant reports a local donut shop --Donut Crazy-- is selling a doughnut with the doc’s face on it. Furthermore, for every one you buy, they'll make a donation to the medical community.
And the San Francisco Chronicle reports the folks at the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum have put together a bobblehead to honor Dr. Fauci. The museum, located in Milwaukee, sells the bobbleheads for $25 (shipping is an extra $8) and they'll be donating $5 from every Dr. Fauci bobblehead sold to the American Hospital Association in support of its 100 Million Mask Challenge.
See the bobbleheads HERE.
And author JAMES PATTERSON announced Thursday that he is donating a half-million dollars to help independent bookstores which are struggling as a result of the pandemic.
Using Zoom these days to hold family conversations since you can't leave home --or to stay in touch with family members around the country? There's been a ban on using Zoom from several companies who claim that because of the popularity of the social networking site, it's making itself a focus for online virus attempts and other security problems.
Companies that have already issued memos asking their employees to stop using it:
- SpaceX, which told employees to “Please use email, text or phone as alternate means of communication,”
- NASA, according to a spokeswoman for the U.S. space agency, and
- The FBI, whose Boston office issued a warning about Zoom earlier this week, telling it has received two reports of unidentified individuals invading school sessions, a phenomenon known as “zoombombing.”
Finally (as if you really care) the folks at Disneyland have decided to raise and lower the American flag daily while the park is closed due to coronavirus. The Los Angeles Daily News reports the folks at Disneyland are also keeping the flickering light in the window of Walt Disney’s apartment above the Disneyland fire station burning as a symbol of inspiration in uncertain times during the coronavirus closure as well.
And by the way, we all have Schrodinger's Virus now:
Because we cannot get tested, we can't know whether we have the virus or not
We have to act as if we have the virus so we don't spread it to others.
We have to act as if we've never had the virus because if we didn't have it, we're not immune.
Therefore, we both have and don't have the virus. Thus, Schrodinger's Virus.
This comes from the physics paradox of Schrödinger's cat, originally thought of by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger back in 1935, although the idea is said to be originated by a guy we all know --Albert Einstein. -
