The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday they may call for another coronavirus lockdown if cases continue to spike. Texas, Florida and Arizona have had incidences of more cases as well as Los Angeles County, which had 1633 new cases on Friday alone. Part of the problem --many people and businesses are not practicing social distancing and other safeguards.
We mentioned last week that country group LADY ANTEBELLUM had changed their name to LADY A, but apparently nobody checked to find out the name was already in use for a 61-year-old black blues singer whose real name is ANITA WHITE. She's reportedly used the stage name for performing and doing recorded music for more than 20 years. She told Rolling Stone magazine that no one on Lady Antebellum's team bothered to touch base with her before their announcement. No word on whether White trademarked the name or whether she plans to sue the former Lady Antebellum for her common law rights or trademark infringement.
In the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs, they're attempting to rename Lake Forrest Drive due to an unconfirmed rumor that it was named for Confederate general NATHAN BEDFORD FORREST, who also was the Ku Klux Klan’s first Grand Wizard. The proposal would simply take one "R" out of Forrest, and solve the potential problem. There is no information about why the street name has two "R's," but it would not be the first name change of the kind in the Atlanta area. In 2017, the city of Atlanta renamed Confederate Avenue near Grant Park to United Avenue, and the changes have been ongoing.
While we're on the subject, Disney fans are asking the company to change the name of Splash Mountain at California’s Disneyland because the name comes from the film, “Song of the South,” which “glorifies slave culture and the racist tropes used to portray black people during the minstrel period” according to one petition. The film is also where the song “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” originated. One petition also asks Disney to rebrand the whole log flume ride around the movie, “The Princess and the Frog,” which featured Disney’s first Black princess.
You won't be seeing the next “Matrix” film --the fourth in the series-- until April of 2022. Warner Brothers announced over the weekend they were pushing the release back because of theatre shutdowns and the coronavirus pandemic.
If you saw Friday's “Jeopardy!” --you saw the last new episode for awhile, since the network stopped taping the show because of the coronavirus pandemic. Word is the network will re-broadcast episodes featuring past champions and also its 2019 Tournament of Champions competition throughout this month and July.
