WILL SMITH's next movie will be a runaway slave thriller called “Emancipation.” Variety reports it's a true story about a runaway slave named Peter, who escaped to the Union Army during the Civil War and outwitted bounty hunters over 10 days through the Louisiana swamps, masking his scent with onions. Work on the movie is expected to begin early next year.
Highly recommended: I managed to get tickets to the original Broadway show, "Hamilton," and it was amazing. Now you'll be able to watch a filmed version of a live-performance of the Broadway musical starring LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA. It's on Disney-Plus tonight (Friday).
The Fourth of July weekend is coming up and of course Macy's Fireworks --and the show that goes with it-- is always worth watching. This weekend, it'll star LADY A (no longer Lady Antebellum, of course) as well as TIM McGRAW and others. And you won't have to social distance to watch the fireworks from your TV set. 8pm (Eastern and Pacific) on NBC or streaming locations as well.
Also celebrating the weekend: ELTON JOHN, who's beginning a weekly archival concert footage series that will air on his official YouTube channel. First show (of six in the series) is tomorrow (Friday) at 12:00 Noon (Eastern).
And as long as we're on a music binge, look for an upcoming documentary on THE GO-GO’s. Rolling Stone reports the documentary will roll out on Showtime beginning August first. Meantime, the day before the documentary airs, look for the Go-Go’s to release their first new recording in nearly 20 years, called “Club Zero.”
