Today's Black Lives Matter Update: OPRAH WINFREY, the New York Times and Lionsgate are getting together to produce a series of feature films and television shows based on the Times series, “The 1619 Project.” The series, from NIKOLE HAHHAH-JONES, was designed to re-examine the legacy of slavery in the United States on the 400th anniversary of the first Africans’ arrival in Virginia. There's no date on which a film or TV series would debut at this point.
TV News: Look for former FOX News host SHEPARD SMITH to join CNBC beginning this fall, and anchoring an evening news show from 7-8 pm (Eastern) weekdays. He's also getting the title of CNBC’s Chief Breaking General News Anchor as well.
Delayed: With all the coronavirus problems postponing things like the Emmys, Grammys and Oscars, it shouldn't come as any surprise that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has bagged its live induction ceremony this year and has decided to honor the class of 2020 with an HBO special this fall instead. You'll see DEPECHE MODE, the DOOBIE BROTHERS, WHITNEY HOUSTON, NINE INCH NAILS, the NOTORIOUS B.I.G., T-REX and more on the special Sat, Nov 07.
It's apparently not just statues of Confederate leaders which are being taken down --a wooden statue of first lady MELANIA TRUMP near her hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia, was set on fire on July Fourth. BRAD DOWNEY, the artist who made the statue, said he took down the statue after police notified him of the torching. However, it may just be that the Trump family is not favored in Slovenia --because back in January, a large wooden statue modeled after DONALD TRUMP was also burnt up as well in Slovenia.
The Drug Enforcement Agency is out with a new warning --apparently drug cartels are making a new version of methamphetamine which looks "like Flintstone vitamins." The new bagged pills have apparently made it into Ohio and the DEA is warning that they could be in other midwest states as well. “It’s dangerous for adults, and it’s definitely dangerous for children,” Detroit-based DEA Special Agent in Charge KEITH MARTIN told local media there.
