Dozens of artists with local Chicago and Midwest roots --including JIM BELUSHI, JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS and KEEGAN-MICHAEL KEY-- belt out the blues classic "Sweet Home Chicago" on a new video. Check it out HERE (and thanks to my high school buddy, CHRISTIE HEFNER, for the link!)
Coronavirus update: The folks at CovidActNow, a team of technologists, epidemiologists, and health experts who track the spread of the disease, say that the states of New Jersey, Vermont and New Hampshire are the only states on track to get rid of their COVID-19 infections. Meanwhile, their researchers say there are certain things that make some people more vulnerable to the coronavirus than others:
- Men are at greater risk than women.
- Older people are at greater risk than younger people.
- Those with chronic health problems like Type 2 diabetes, obesity and serious heart conditions are doing worse than people without them.
- Black and Latino Americans are at greater risk than Asian Americans and whites.
And congratulations to the folks from Florida, where the local Department of Health updated the number of new COVID-19 cases Sunday to 15,300 --the most new COVID-19 cases of any state in a single day. The previous record was held by New York, which reported 12,274 back on April 04.
You knew something like this would happen --in San Antonio, TX, a group of people got together for a “COVID party,” and one of the participants in their 30s has already died from the coronavirus. People hold a “COVID party” after they've been diagnosed with the COVID virus and they want to see if the virus is real and to see if anyone else gets infected. Gee, thanks.
USC’s School of Cinematic Arts says they will be removing an exhibit dedicated to movie star JOHN WAYNE after a recent student-led protest cited some of Wayne's public remarks. In one 1971 interview, Wayne admitted, “I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility.” Variety reports he also spoke disparagingly about Native Americans and used a homophobic slur when discussing the film, “Midnight Cowboy.” USC says the exhibit contents will be moved into the university’s Cinematic Arts Library. There's also been a move to rename California's John Wayne Airport as a result of his remarks as well.
Somebody that held onto a sealed copy of the classic 1985 Nintendo game “Super Mario Bros.” picked up a nice $114-thousand dollars when it was auctioned off Friday. It's the highest-selling video game ever sold at auction. Question for your listeners: What are you holding onto and have never opened up that you might want to auction off someday?
