The big wins at the Emmy Awards for “Schitt’s Creek” pushed the show into national syndication. Passing: Chicago Bears Hall of Fame running back GALE SAYERS. He was 77. Football fanatics will know the name because he was in the movie "Brian's Song," that told the story of his friendship with a dying teammate, BRIAN PICCOLO. He played for seven seasons in the pros, averaging five yards per carry. Unfortunately in the past several years, he experienced debilitating dementia.
Fast food: if you're looking for a little lunch with breakfast, Carl’s Jr. has just introduced their Breakfast Burger With Fried Egg. Basically, it's a fried egg on top of a burger: an all-beef patty topped with bacon, American cheese, Hash Rounds and ketchup on a bun. And... 960 Calories.
Run for your lives! (Just kidding)... a small near-Earth asteroid about the size of a school bus is due to pass by the Earth today (Thursday, September 24th) at around 7:12 am (Eastern). It'll pass by about 13-thousand miles away, but that's below the ring of satellites (like the ones your GPS and other services use) which orbit the Earth at around 22-thousand miles. Scientists say it won't even be close to hitting the Earth, and will continue to speed off on it's orbit around the sun, returning sometime around 2041.
It's over! CNN Business reports that the folks at the Mars company have decided to change the name of "Uncle Ben's" rice products to "Ben's Original"... and have also decided to get rid of the logo featuring what the company claims was a "Black rice farmer from Texas." However, they also say that the original Uncle Ben's picture used the face of FRANK BROWN, the head waiter at an exclusive Chicago restaurant in the 1940s when the product hit the stores.
Good news for folks who've claimed they'd like an all-electric car like a Tesla, but they were too expensive. Yesterday, Tesla CEO ELON MUSK said the battery and manufacturing advances his company is working on could mean that “About 3 years from now, we’re confident we can make a very compelling $25,000 electric vehicle.”
The BBC Radio has announced an exclusive, two-hour special in which SEAN ONO LENNON will interview PAUL McCARTNEY, ELTON JOHN and his half-brother JULIAN. The show will be broadcast on what would have been JOHN LENNON’s 80th birthday, this coming October 9th. The show will be split into two, one-hour parts, on October 3rd and 4th, at 9 p.m. British Standard Time (that's 4 p.m. Eastern time) on BBC Radio 2.
