Film news: My personal favorite story is about the new remake of “The Toxic Avenger,” in which PETER DINKLAGE stars as Toxie. Dinklage is originally a mild-mannered janitor at a health club who’s pushed out of a second-story window by bullies into a vat of toxic waste, which transforms him into “a hideously deformed mutant gifted with superhuman size and strength.” In other words, the Toxic Avenger. Then, he'll have to save his own son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.
It'll be former "Jeopardy!" champion BUZZY COHEN who'll be hosting the show’s upcoming Tournament of Champions. People magazine reports he'll host the show beginning May 17 through the 28th and preside over the tournament where somebody will pick up $250-thousand bucks.
It's all over between JENNIFER LOPEZ and ALEX RODRIGUEZ. The couple issued a joint statement to People magazine which said "We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another's children." The fun couple had announced several weeks ago that they were "working through some things" after ending their engagement in early March.
PS: TMZ reports although they might have broken up, there is still the question about who gets J-Lo's $1.8 million engagement ring? Tradition says if you're not getting married, you should give the ring back. Do you agree?
Tonight: SHARON OSBOURNE will tell BILL MAHER on HBO about her departure from "The Talk" --why she left and what she'll be doing now.
More tube news: A TV show that might put you in space? Yup --the folks at the commercial spaceflight company Axiom Space are developing a new reality television show with NASA oversight called (wait for it...) “Space Hero.” And whoever wins the reality show will reportedly get “a $55 million, 10-day trip to the International Space Station.” The show, set to debut in 2023, still needs NASA approval to get the winner aboard a spacecraft being sent to the ISS, but it's apparently in the works.
CBS has announced they'll be picking up five more shows for next season, including a 19th season of “NCIS,” “Blue Bloods,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Bull” and “Magnum, PI.” The network previously also renewed “FBI” and “FBI: Most Wanted” and the comedy series “Bob Hearts Abishola,” as well as “The Equalizer,” “The Neighborhood” and “Survivor.” “Tough as Nails” also got a two season renewal, and “Young Sheldon” was renewed for three seasons.
Fast food: Almost a two-for-one deal at Wendy’s restaurants, where they're doing a buy one, get one premium chicken sandwich for a $1. The deal runs through May 2nd, but you'll have to use their app to get it.
Finally, a COVID update: The CEO of Pfizer says they're investigating how a third dose of their coronavirus vaccine might boost people's immune response even more than the 95-percent for two doses. The third dose would reportedly be the same as the other doses and act like a booster shot given a year later. The Pfizer folks are studying the effect on two groups --people 18 to 55 and those 65 to 85.
