Did you play with Nintendo games when you were young? Now you can visit a museum dedicated to those video games, because the company is making one of its factories --the Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant-- into a museum outside the city of Kyoko, Japan. They say it'll be finished by March of 2024. But in the meantime, if you're really into video games, you can visit Universal Studios’ "Super Nintendo World" theme park, which opened in Japan in March. They have a Mario Kart ride and a Yoshi’s Adventure ride.
The folks at Disney World say there's more people trying to smuggle in guns to their park! Despite the theme park being closed for five months because of the pandemic, the Orlando Sentinel reports they had at least 14 people arrested for carrying concealed firearms in the first four months alone. The usual excuses: "I forgot I was carrying the gun" or "I didn't know guns were forbidden in the resort." Right.
First hurricane of the season? Tropical Storm Bill has formed in the Atlantic. Not so much. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Bill, which was about 290 miles southeast of Nova Scotia yesterday, will probably weaken and never make it to Hurricane strength. It's headed northeast anyway, away from land.
Jail bait? Look for HARVEY WEINSTEIN to be sent to Los Angeles for trial, after an Erie County judge ruled that LA County authorities could claim custody of Weinstein. He'll be in court to face 11 sexual assault charges involving five women in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, and could get up to 140 years to life in prison if convicted of the charges, which include rape and sexual battery.
Tube Talk: The folks at the Disney Plus channel have picked up a “Beauty and the Beast” prequel series. LUKE EVANS and JOSH GAD will be taking the roles of Gaston and LeFou, first seen in the live-action “Beauty and the Beast” film. The pair will take off with LeFou's step-sister, Tilly, played by BRIANA MIDDLETON after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the trio off on an unexpected journey. Another highlight of the series is that ALAN MENKEN, who's the series' executive producer, will also be doing an original soundtrack as well.
More TV: The movie, "American Gigolo" is being turned into a series for Showtime. As you probably remember, the original movie starred RICHARD GERE and LAUREN HUTTON. The 10-episode (so far) series will be starring JON BERNTHAL (from "The Walking Dead") and GRETCHEN MOL (from "Boardwalk Empire"). As the series opens, it's 15 years after Jon's character, Julian Kaye, was arrested for murder. Now he's trying to find out who set him up and sent him to prison all those years ago and he's also looking for Michelle, his one true love. ROSIE O’DONNELL will also be part of the cast as well as a guest appearance by WAYNE BRADY, to look for.
Finally, although some late-night talk show hosts like STEPHEN COLBERT and JIMMY FALLON have moved back to their regular studios post-pandemic, CBS says Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” host TREVOR NOAH will be taking a couple of months off for vacation before returning to his show September 13th.
And just a heads up: I will be taking tomorrow as the first of a couple of travel days off so I can drive to my mother's house in Chicago to celebrate her 99th birthday!
