Weekend movies: “Space Jam: A New Legacy” took number one at the box office over the weekend, handily beating “Black Widow” to post $80.37 million. “Black Widow” pulled in $26.51 million.
Pope Francis: After getting out of the hospital 11 days ago, the Pope made his first weekly address from a window overlooking St. Peter’s Square and told the crowd they should take a break and switch off from the stresses of modern life. “Let us put a halt to the frantic running around dictated by our agendas,” he said. “Let us learn how to take a break, to turn off the mobile phone.”
Right. Question for the listeners: when's the last time you turned off your phone --and why?
Tube talk: ROBERT HAYS has a new A&E series which will be all about flying. You probably remember him as the pilot in the ’80s movie, “Airplane!” Now, he's hosting a series called “Fasten Your Seatbelt,” which uses footage from cellphones and security cameras to document airport and airline incidents --good and bad. The series premieres on A&E this Wednesday (July 21st) at 10 pm.
Here's a update: Former football star COLIN KAEPERNICK, who many people remember as a QB for the San Francisco 49ers, and later for taking a knee during the national anthem to protest police violence and racism, has written a children's book. “I Color Myself Different,” reportedly will be “deeply personal,” and takes its name from one a kindergarten moment drawing his adopted family when he used a yellow crayon to color them and a brown crayon for himself. The book is due out in April.
Music, take 1: Congrats to OLIVIA RODRIGO on her fourth week at the top of Billboard’s 200 albums chart, with “Sour.”
Music, take 2: Sorry to get a MARK HOPPUS update: The Blink-182 star has been fighting cancer since early this year, when he began going through chemotherapy. But Friday, Hoppus revealed that not only had the cancer has entered multiple parts of his body, but he'll have to go back for “at least three more rounds” of chemo. The positive attitude remains, though --“we’re beating this cancer, it’s just a matter of time” he said, noting that he also might have to get a bone marrow transplant because the cancer is “blood related.”
Music, take 3: Finally, sorry to hear that Rapper BIZ MARKIE has passed away from complications of diabetes. He was 57. His song, "Just A Friend" was a huge hit in 1989.
Fast food: Pizza Hut is offering one of their large Meat Lover’s Pizzas --TOPPED WITH SIX MEATS-- for $12.99 each. Pick it up at participating locations nationwide via contactless delivery, carryout, curbside, etc.
PS: Those six meats, in case you care: pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, seasoned pork and beef.
