Mariah Carey is being sued for copyright infringement over her 1994 Christmas mega-hit, “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Andy Stone, who performs as Vince Vance with the band Vince Vance and the Valiants, claims he co-wrote a song with the same name five years earlier, and sez Mariah exploited his "popularity" and "style". Her version has been streamed one billion times on Spotify and by 2017 had reportedly earned her more than $60 million in royalties. Vince says he wants at least $20 million in damages.
The folks at Abbott say they’ve restarted production at their baby formula plant which was closed in February because of contamination, and led to the shortage of formula. The company said it would take about three weeks before new formula from the plant began reaching stores.
A new study from the Federal Trade Commission sez Americans have lost over $1 billion to crypto-related scams since January of last year. That’s over 46-thousand people who say they have been ripped off—usually with the promise of a fake “investment opportunity” on the internet. Other scams included investing in Bitcoin or “romance” scams during online dating. An additional $133 million was lost to “business and government impersonation” scams, where cybercriminals pretended to be authority figures and then made up bizarre reasons why a victim needed to invest in cryptocurrency.
Customs officials have arrested a man who used an electric wheelchair when he got off his plane from the Dominican Republic to Charlotte, North Carolina. Turns out 22-year-old Alexander Lopez-Morel was apparently concealing 23 pounds of cocaine inside the wheelchair, stuffed in the cushions. The four packages have an estimated street value of $378-thousand dollars.
GoFundMe has locked down a page trying to make a million dollars for Amber Heard to pay Johnny Depp’s damages. Amber’s been ordered to pay him $8.35 million ...though her team had said it will appeal, and her lawyer says although she can't afford to pay the judgment, she's surely not setting up a GoFundMe for it.
