The Foo Fighters will be celebrating the life of their late drummer, Taylor Hawkins, with two shows --one in London's Wembley Stadium on September 3rd, and one in LA on September 27th. It’ll be the first time they have played live since he was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia this past March.
Passing: Jim Seals of Seals and Crofts, has died at home in Nashville at the age of 80. No word about the cause of death other that it was a "chronic ongoing illness." The biggest song was (of course) 1972’s “Summer Breeze,” which sold more than a million copies in the US alone. The pair had five gold albums beginning that year.
Movies: Not so good reviews for the latest “Jurassic Park” sequel, “Jurassic World: Dominion,” which will be in theaters Friday. The movie has members of the 1993 original film -- Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum—as well as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. One review calls it “hokey as hell in many aspects,” another saying “It’s too long, overindulgent and pointless.” On the other hand, there’s plenty of dinosaurs.
Also new in theatres this weekend: “Block Party” where a Harvard grad returns to her hometown when her grandmother shows early signs of dementia to help put on an annual Juneteenth block party. Stars Antoinette Robertson, Margaret Avery and Golden Brooks.
Look for a sequel to the 2019 “Joker” film. Director Todd Phillips posted a series of photos to Instagram earlier this week, including a red script cover with the title “Joker: Folie à Deux,” as well as a shot of star Joaquin Phoenix.
“Ozark” star Julia Garner has reportedly been offered the role of Madonna in a new movie about the Queen of Pop. And Variety says Madonna is set to direct the film as well.
Closing: Broadway musicals “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Tina,” later this summer. The musicals did well when they opened, but the low audience turnout because of the coronavirus has kept the major audiences away. However, “Dear Evan Hansen” has scheduled a North American tour and “Tina” will begin a North American tour in September.
In case you’re a Broadway fan --the 75th annual Tony Awards is this Sunday night on CBS.
Netflix is reportedly putting together a new “Ghostbusters” animated series. It’d be the third animated “Ghostbusters” show in the franchise’s history.
The folks at Moderna say they have a new, "highly effective" updated COVID-19 bivalent vaccine which provides a seven-fold increase in antibody levels. The company says it could be the first vaccine which might be given just once a year as a booster and a "turning point" in the nation's fight against the pandemic.
