Money Talks:
Remember when the government moved to limit top pay for federal bank and car execs? All the hand-wringing from experts who predicted a mass exodus if the big hoo-ha's didn't get big checks?
Two years later, a few of them did leave, but the NY Times says 85 percent didn't.
The paper credits "a soft job market, corporate loyalty, and personal pride" with keeping people in place, even though compensation was slashed almost 77 percent from 2008 to 2009 at the most sharply affected firms. (Maiman)Like you really care:
BRITNEY SPEARS may have her precious sanity back intact, but is still in desperate need of a stylist. PerezHilton.com posted pictures of the pop tart hitting up a gas station wearing her old uniform of short-shorts, tight tee-shirt with no bra and Uggs boots topped off with fire-engine red lipstick.
Meanwhile, photographers spotted the hot, young mom with a huge welt on her left arm. (Lee)Setting a good example:
Let's face it --cops in the U-S-A have had a reputation for being overweight donut-eaters for years and years. But, cops in other countries are earning the same bad rep nowadays.
According to Ananova.com, police officers in South Africa have been told to shape up or they'll be fired. That's because a new study found that over half of the police force in that country is obese.
To combat the problem, officials have launched a new program called Viva Fitness where cops take part in a regular exercise regimine. And, they now have to weigh in regularly and have their body fat percentage checked.
The new rules state that every officer has to be able to fit into the same size uniform they wore when they first attended the police academy. (Still)Reality Round-Up:
White-hot ratings for the debut of "Dancing With The Stars" Monday night. Overnight Nielsen ratings show 23.9 million adult viewers checked in, making it the show's most-watched opening ever. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that as a lead-in, the show pushed the ratings for "Castle" up to 12.9 million adults (18-49), beating "CSI: Miami" for the first time and pushing it down to an all-time low.
Meanwhile, DialIdol.com says AIDEN TURNER is likely to be voted off after Monday night's "Dancing With The Stars." And although you might have thought that BUZZ ALDRIN could get the moon-boot after his performance, it appears he's in second place after the first night --because he has a huge support base.
Another shocker --in first place, KATE GOSSELIN.
The vote-off will take place next week... there's still another night of dancing and the judges votes have to be tabulated as well, but it looks like more of a popularity contest this season, since the best dancers (at least in the judges' opinions) are pretty far down the list. Preliminary rankings from DialIdol, which forces multiple calls to the show's call-in numbers and then ranks them by which numbers are easier to get through on (thereby making them the weaker contestants):
--Kate Gosselin,
--Buzz Aldrin,
--Pamela Anderson,
--Chad Ochocinco,
--Niecy Nash,
--Nicole Scherzinger,
--Evan Lysacek,
--Erin Andrews,
--Jake Pavelka,
--Shannen Doherty,
--Aidan Turner, -
