White House Correspondent's Dinner:
While JAY LENO pretty much stiffed by all accounts, PRESIDENT OBAMA let loose with some great lines Saturday night at the annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. But it turns out, the president had a little help with his jokes.
The Daily Beast reports that much of the president's routine was scripted by writers from "The Daily Show." Some of his better lines:
--"It's been quite a year since I've spoken here last --lots of ups, lots of downs-- except for my approval ratings, which have just gone down... But that's politics. It doesn't bother me. Beside I happen to know that my approval ratings are still very high in the country of my birth."
--"The JONAS Brothers are here... SASHA and MALIA are huge fans. But, boys, don't get any ideas. I have two words for you --Predator drones. You will never see it coming. You think I'm joking."
--"I saw MICHAEL STEELE backstage when we were taking pictures --AKA Notorious GOP. Michael, who knows what truly plagues America today --taxation without representin'. My brother!"
--"I've learned this year politics can be a tough business, but there are times where you just can't help but laugh. You know what really tickles me? ERIC MASSA. Apparently Massa claimed that RAHM (EMANUEL) came up to him one day in the House locker room, stark naked, started screaming obscenities at him. To which I say, welcome to my world." Equal opportunity is coming to Pixie Hollow. Yahoo! reports Disney's kiddie website has introduced a male to its cast of characters. Young fans get to fly around the virtual world as fairies, but the only choices so far have been winged ladies --that's all changing with the addition of a guy named "Slate." Don't call him a fairy like Tinker Bell --the savvy marketing geniuses maintain he's a "Sparrow Man." (Lee)
Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
True "Gleeks" will be happy to hear that "Mr. Schuester" never dated one of his students. Rumors have been swirling that "Glee" stars MATTHEW MORRISON and LEA MICHELE were once a hot couple, but the young actress denied the juicy story to AbsoluteNow.com. She says they've been friends for years and are "so close," but her heart lies with another mystery man that works on Broadway. (Lee)
On, off and way-off Broadway:
Although critics gave lackluster reviews to the Broadway show, "The Addams Family," Daily Variety magazine notes the show has pulled in more than a million bucks each week since it's opening, good enough to put it in the weekly top-ten list of Broadway shows.
That's also enough to make it a cinch for a nationwide tour, which was just announced Friday. It'll kick off in New Orleans in September, 2011.Now That's Entertainment, Dep't:
"Abraham Lincoln's Big, Gay Dance Party," which originated at the San Francisco Playhouse in 2008, is headed for off-Broadway this summer for a six-week run. Daily Variety magazine says the show "centers on a fourth-grade Christmas pageant in Illinois that sparks controversy by questioning Lincoln's sexuality."
If you loved the MADONNA tribute episode of "Glee," wait until this Tuesday, when Sue Sylvester does a duet with OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN on (wait for it...) "Physical."
Editor's note: if you can't wait, you can hear the audio HERE.
Yes, Olivia joins the cast playing herself in the episode entitled "Bad Reputation."
On the show, an embarrassing video of Sue doing a Jazzercise routine ends up on YouTube, and gets so many hits that Olivia calls her up and they decide to do another one ...together.
