Mother's Day:
No matter how pinched the household budget, we're still going to do our best to keep Mom out of the kitchen for Mother's Day. Restaurants still expect it will be the busiest day of the year, according to the National Restaurant Association --about 38% of all Americans will dine out that day. In fact, many will dine out twice, celebrating with different people: The NRA reports that 59% celebrate at dinner, 51% at lunch or brunch, and 22% at breakfast. (Kaye)
10 Best moms ever (source: Time magazine):
10. Dumbo's mom (Mrs Jumbo)
9. The moms of "The Joy Luck Club"
8. Gaia (also known in English as "Mother Earth")
7. Rusty Dennis in "Mask"
6. Jochabed, Mother of Moses, who made a basket and floated him downstream after Pharoah declared that all newborn Jewish males be killed.
5. Florida Evans from "Good Times"
4. Whistler's mother.
3. Hester Prynne from "The Scarlet Letter."
2. Marge Simpson. "She's sweet, simple, unflappable, and like Edith Bunker before her, she uses her goodness as a shield from the crudeness of her husband and the never-ending needs of her kids."
1. The Queen Mother, From "Aliens." "She's protecting her babies, trying to find them safe haven and nutritious food to make them grow into big, strong healthy aliens. Like all good moms, she will take out anyone who is a threat. Focused (perhaps to a fault) on guarding her young, she is the ultimate mother warrior. And she doesn't even expect her kids to buy her flowers on Mother's Day. Now, that's a champ. "Like you really care:
GWYNETH PALTROW went on a quickie diet to get in tip-top shape for "Iron Man 2." The actress is a big fan of celebrity trainer TRACY ANDERSON and revealed on her blog at Goop.com that she sucked down kale, green tea, "clean" shakes, grilled chicken and salads for five days to give her metabolism a boost. (Lee)
Meanwhile, the Huffington Post says JENNIFER ANISTON is on a diet where she eats 14 servings of baby food a day. She calls it the "baby food cleanse," and all that baby food is followed by a final salad for the last meal. She claims her "dietician" told her it keeps the body's metabolism going, instead of shutting down.
Grace notes:
WILSON PHILLIPS is reuniting. People.com says 90's hitmakers CHYNNA PHILLIPS, and CARNIE & WENDY WILSON are recording a Christmas album and will also tour. Chynna says she's very excited about this, and that she's feeling great. Chynna checked herself into a treatment facility for anxiety issues in February after her half-sister MACKENZIE claimed she had a sexual relationship with their father, the late JOHN PHILLIPS of the MAMAS & THE PAPAS. (Marino)
Chocolate, Caffeine, Alcohol... Formula?:
The blogosphere is rippling with discussions of Mead Johnson Nutrition Co.'s flavored formulas for toddlers. Intriduced in February as a beverage for toddlers who are transitioning from infant formula or breast milk, Enfagrow Premium's toddler chocolate and vanilla formulas are milk-based but contain 19 grams of sugar per 7-ounce serving. The company says that makes it no sweeter than chocolate milk or orange juice while offering nutrients that milk lacks, such as Omega-3 DHA and prebiotics.
Nutritionists and pediatricians say the product will train kids to crave sweet or sugary foods and lead to even more childhood obesity. Hassled moms of picky eaters say they welcome anything that will get nutrients into their kids. (Kaye) -
