Men in Uniform:
Ceremonies were held in France yesterday to mark the 66th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion that turned the tide of World Ward II in favor of the U-S, Britain and France against Germany, Japan and Italy. The main ceremony was held at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France, which overlooks Omaha Beach --the main site where the initial wave of U-S troops landed.
Many members of those initial landing parties were gunned down almost immediately. In all, over four-hundred-thousand Allied and Axis troops were killed or wounded during the actual D-Day operation, and in the following weeks before Normandy was brought under U-S and British control. (Pacelli)Recall:
Chrysler is recalling more than 25-thousand vehicles because of concerns over sticky accelerator pedals, which could cause unintended acceleration. There have been five complaints regarding gas pedals in the 2007 model year Dodge Caliber and 2007 model year Jeep Compass.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the sticking gas pedals were made by the same supplier Toyota used. Chrysler said their vehicles are equipped with a "smart brake" system, which would override the gas pedal if the accelerator and brake were applied at the same time, but agreed to issue the recall anyway. (Page)McDonald's is recalling 12 million "Shrek" glasses.
After an anonymous tip to Rep JACKIE SPEIER of California last week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission tested the glasses and confirmed the presence of cadmium, a toxic metal that poses health risks.
McDonald's has sold about 12 million at $2 apiece.
The recall comes after Wal-Mart announced it would remove MILEY CYRUS jewelry from its stores because of the presence of cadmium. Cadmium has been found to cause developmental problems in children and is related to kidney disease and lung damage. (Maiman)Trolling for publicity:
Want a body like JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT? The key could be as close as your television. The actress revealed to Us Weekly that she watches "America's Next Top Model" to get inspired for her hard-core workouts! Jen hits the elliptical for about 45-minutes per-day, loves a good spin session and has no plans on finding another boyfriend any time soon because she adores being single. (Lee)
MIKE "The Situation" SORRENTINO loves his doll. The "Jersey Shore" star tells Star magazine that the action figure made of him is a dead ringer for him. "He looks ripped up and I'm always ripped up and looking good." (Myers)
Reality Round-Up:
Probably no surprise when the producer of "Jersey Shore" admits they hand out the Herpes medication, Valtrex, (quote) "like M&Ms." SALLYANN SALSANO tells the Hollywood Reporter, "It's like a herpes nest. They're all in there mixing it up."
The conversation took place at a round-table discussion of various reality shows.Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
MILEY CYRUS says anyone who thinks she actually kissed a girl on British TV needs to get a life. The 17-year-old "Hannah Montana" star posted on her Web site that nothing happened. Miley did her new single, "I Can't Be Tamed" Thursday night on "Britain's Got Talent" and it looked like she planted a wet one on one of her female backup dancers. But, Miley's hair covered their mouths so there's no way of knowing. Miley insists that she did not kiss her.
Meanwhile, Miley did her first concert in Spain yesterday. 36,000 fans showed up to see her on the third day of the Rock in Rio Madrid festival. (Marino)
