Engaged:
Beauty queen and "flash-in-the-pan conservative cable news darling" CARRIE PREJEAN is engaged. TMZ.com says the 23-year-old former Miss California who came close to being named Miss USA 2009 (who famously came out against same-sex marriage in the questioning round) is now set to tie the knot with quarterback KYLE BOLLER, who's currently trying to get a job on the Oakland Raiders.
Boller spent six years in Baltimore, starting 42 games. He started four games for the Rams in 2009 and signed with the Raiders in April. The pair will make it official on Friday at The Grand Del Mar hotel in San Diego. PEREZ HILTON, we presume, will not be invited.
Editor's note: How nice that someone who wants to keep millions of people from getting married is able to enjoy marriage herself. (Hope she saved herself for her big night.)
--Quarterback for the Oakland Raiders? I'll bet all the offensive linemen have already got copies of her sex tape. (Maiman)Filling a need:
At long last: Verizon Wireless will start selling the Apple iPhone in January.
Two people familiar with the plan tell Bloomberg News that the relationship between Apple and AT&T has frayed in recent months as AT&T allowed a major iPad security breach and was unable to handle the demand for the new iPhone 4.
Verizon is the country's largest mobile-company and iPhone fans have long hoped for an alternative to AT&T's congested network. (Maiman)
Editor's note: Of course, people have been claiming that the switchover will happen for years --so the rumor isn't new. But it is more widespread this time and has the backing of some credible sources. (RB)Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
Life imitates art, or vice versa: KIM KARDASHIAN is becoming a wax dummy. Kim announced yesterday on her web site that the folks from Madame Tussauds wax museum in NYC will be putting her wax figure in an exhibit. As she put it: "This is one of the greatest honors ever and I am so thrilled and excited. Now I will never have to leave NYC... I've officially gone bi-coastal! LOL."
On, off and way-off Broadway:
The play "Driving Miss Daisy" is coming back to Broadway with an all-star cast. The original, done in 1987, was made into a 1989 movie starring MORGAN FREEMAN and JESSICA TANDY. USA Today reports the revival, which opens at the Golden Theatre on Oct 25, will star Tony winners JAMES EARL JONES and VANESSA REDGRAVE.
Broadcast, cable and video news:
It's official: "Larry King Live" will end this fall.
The 76-year-old broke the news via Twitter last night, and to bring things full circle, King will interview MARIO CUOMO on his final show, the same person he interviewed in his first CNN broadcast 25 years ago (when Cuomo was governor of New York).
"What brought this to a head was his messy personal life," said an anonymous CNN source. "And he's old --it's too much."
"View" co-host JOY BEHAR, CBS anchor KATIE COURIC, RYAN SEACREST, and British TV star PIERS MORGAN (from "America's Got Talent") have been rumored to replace King, with insiders saying Piers --who also did an interview show in England before hitting the reality circuit-- has the inside track. (Maiman)The Reel Deal:
Going to see "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" over the weekend? Whether you're on Team Edward or Team Jacob, you'll have plenty of chances. The movie will be showing at 4,416 theatres across America. That's actually a record.
Deadline Hollywood reports "Iron Man 2" currently holds the record after it showed in 4,380 locations the first weekend. Before that, "The Dark Knight" opened in 4,366 theaters in 2008. For the uninitiated, a wide release picture usually opens in around 25-hundred theatres. -
