The President at play:
The New York Times reports that PRESIDENT OBAMA's advisers are weighing a possible nationwide ad blitz to try and link the Republican Party -- and its mainstream personalities -- with the Tea Party. One source tells the Times, "We need to get out the message that it's now really dangerous to re-empower the Republican Party because the people who have taken over the party are radical."
But the paper also reports that many Democratic House candidates are a bit queasy about that tactic. They think any money for a national ad blitz would be better spent on individual races. (Pacelli)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
LINDSAY LOHAN isn't exactly on the road to recovery. Last Friday sources blabbed to TMZ.com that the rehabbed redhead tested dirty for drugs and while denials were floating around when the story broke, she eventually fessed up. Lilo "tweeted" the news that:
--"I did in fact fail my most recent drug test"
--She's willing to appear before JUDGE EDEN FOX next week
--She admitted substance abuse is a disease that "doesn't go away overnight"
--and she finished off with a commitment to test every single day, said a thank-you to her fans, loved ones and immediate family and said she's "keeping my faith."
This could mean more slammer time for the troubled young actress. Judge Fox gave her a strict warning about violating the terms of her probation and TMZ.com reports she could be sentenced to thirty days for every positive test. This big mess all stems from two DUI convictions back in '07 and she was just released from rehab on August 24th. (Lee)Tabloids with Cory Myers:
NICOLE RICHIE may start recording again. Star magazine has a pic of the mom of two belting out a Spice Girls song at a Bergdorf Goodman fashion party in New York City. (Myers)
School Daze:
Students at a Winthrop, MN, school will be trading in their textbooks for iPads this year. According to the Mankato Free Press, each student at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (GFW) High School has been issued an Apple iPad pre-loaded with all the books they'll need for the school year.
The iPad isn't just for reading, though. The school is also allowing students to use other features, including the Internet browser, e-mail and video. (Page)Rounding up the usual suspects:
Miami police say a woman posing as a doctor promised a 22-year-old woman the "perfect backside" with injections.
It started when the con artist, ANA JESEFA SEVILLA, approached 22-year-old DONIA RODRIGUEZ outside a health spa. The two struck up a conversation, and when Rodriguez said she didn't like the way her butt looked, Sevilla said, "I can fix it." Then she gave Rodriguez a flyer about buttocks augmentation using injections.
The Miami Herald reports there have been a couple of cases going back a decade where victims took up these kinds of offers. In some cases the substance injected was neither silicone nor Botox, but industrial liquids including Super Glue and a tire-inflation aerosol product called "Fix-a-Flat." At least one woman died.
Sevilla was arrested after Rodriguez took the bait, went through the injections after paying a thousand bucks, but later became sick and had to be hospitalized.
Editor's note: Well, "Fix-a-Flat" is only supposed to work for about 500 miles or two days, whichever comes first, so whaddya want for your measly thousand bucks? (Maiman)
