Recall:
Mercedes-Benz is recalling about 85-thousand sedans with steering problems.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the problem is with the connection fitting on the high-pressure power steering line. This can cause power-steering fluid to leak, making the cars difficult to control. The issue affects the 2010 C-Class and 2010-11 E-Class sedans. (Page)Trade Secrets:
Are you fresh out of college and scared to death your first gig may be in the drive-thru? TOM BROKAW is here to save the day! The NY Post's Page Six gossip column reports the legendary newsman is encouraging the fabulous and free to pack up and head overseas. The journalist did a little sleuthing and discovered that American companies are in need of middle-management candidates that can relocate to India, China or the Middle East. (Lee)
Fashion Emergency:
JUSTIN BIEBER has it all --fame, fortune and (wait for it...) his own brand of nail polish! Yeah, that's right. Justin has endorsed --and some say, designed-- a line of nail polishes which will be out just in time for that lucrative holiday gift-giving season. The polishes will be done by Nicole by OPI and called the One Less Lonely Girl collection, and include:
--One Less Lonely Glitter (lavender),
--Prized Possession Purple (grape),
--Give Me The First Dance (silver),
--Me + Blue (dark blue),
--OMB! (bright red), and
--Step 2 the Beat of My Heart (heart-shaped glitter).
Look for 'em at WalMart by the holidays and then in Target and Sears early next year.
Meanwhile, JB's first book "Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story" will hit store shelves tomorrow. (Lee)Broadcast, cable and video news:
ANGUS T JONES --the kid who plays the half-a-man on TV's "Two and a Half Men"-- just turned 17 last Friday and picked up a nice salary bump for this season. TMZ.com reports he's now making $300,000 per episode. But wait --there's more! He also nabbed a not-too-shabby half-million-dollar "signing bonus" as well. Hey --happy birthday, Angus!!
Of course, that's chump change compared to CHARLIE SHEEN, who now pulls down $2 million an episode, or $26 million a season. But it's not too bad for a 17-year-old, is it?Grace notes:
"Glee" star MATTHEW MORRISON will get a little help from SIR ELTON JOHN. Elton told Entertainment Weekly that he'll be doing something on the debut album from the actor who plays glee club director Will Schuester on the hit Fox show. And, Elton is all for an episode of "Glee" spotlighting his music.
Elton also said he really wants to record a duet for LADY GAGA's next album, but they are both so busy that he's not sure if it can happen. (Marino)Health and Medical Briefs:
Is light drinking during pregnancy good for baby?
A group of researchers gathered 11,500 children born in Britain and divided them into groups depending on how much their mothers reported drinking while they were pregnant.
It turns out that boys and girls whose mothers were light drinkers were less likely to have behavioral, emotional, or intellectual problems. Plus they were less likely to have hyperactivity.
As you might expect, the results were the opposite for children whose mothers said they were heavy drinkers. The study is certainly problematic since it relied on mothers' own estimates of alcohol consumption, although it seems most usually under-report their alcohol intake. (Maiman)
