The President at play:
Pundits are pointing to a pair of appearances by PRESIDENT OBAMA as sign of just how desperate things have become for Democrats who are trying to rally their base. The president appeared last night on JON STEWART's "Daily Show"in an obvious push to get young voters to the polls.
And this Saturday, the president will head to an afternoon pep rally in Bridgeport, CT, to appear with first-term Democratic Congressman JIM HIMES. Himes is locked in a tough re-election battle after upsetting fomer Congressman CHRIS SHAYS --New England's only GOP congressman-- two years ago. Bridgeport has a very high African-American population, and hip-hop mogul RUSSELL SIMMONSwill emcee the event.
Editor's Note: That's right. Two days before the midterms, and the president is in Bridgeport, CT, a solidly "blue" city in one of the nations "bluest" states. (Pacelli)Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
Great news --JESSE JAMES may be headed to the altar for the fourth time! The San Francisco Chronicle's "Daily Dish" gossip column reports the tattoo queen showed off a "huge" antique ring on that finger during a book signing last Tuesday. Kat reportedly gushed about the Victorian jewel at the event, but refused to confirm or deny she's engaged to the philandering biker. (Lee)
Outta jail and ready to wail:
That fun couple, RANDY and EVI QUAID, were released yesterday after six days behind bars in Vancouver. And, thanks to the fact that her father was born in Canada, the Canada Border Security Agency says they now consider her to be (quote) "a prima facie Canadian citizen," and they'll actually consider her request to remain in Canada with her husband.
As far as Randy's status goes, he's married to a Canadian citizen, but will have to apply to remain in the frozen North. Obviously, even if they are granted resident status in Canada, they could still be extradited for skipping that California arraignment hearing over charges that they were squatters in their former home. The Reel Deal:
Viewers who can't get enough of Pandora are in luck: JAMES CAMERON has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to direct two more sequels to "Avatar," tentatively scheduled to be released in December 2014, and the same month of the following year.
Cameron hasn't released any details of the upcoming scripts (possibly because he has yet to start writing them), but in a vague statement this week, he promised not to "back off the throttle of 'Avatar's' visual and emotional horsepower."
In addition to being the most expensive movie ever made, "Avatar" is also the highest-grossing film of all time, having earned $2.8 billion globally. But because they've already developed the 3-D technology needed for the films, studio execs say that any "Avatar" sequels will be significantly cheaper than the original. (Maiman)Grace notes:
TAYLOR SWIFT released her new album, "Speak Now" on Monday instead of the usual Tuesday release date, and industry experts say she could have the biggest sales week of the year. When October 31st rolls around on Sunday, Taylor could move one-million copies, which would be a huge year-end boost for the music biz. The last time an album debuted with a million sold was back in June of 2008 when LIL WAYNE's "Tha Carter III" moved a little more than six figures. (Marino)
Off the beaten path:
In Mexico, 3-thousand people will help make the world's largest burrito next month.
Agence France-Presse confirms the giant Mexican wrap will be 1-point-7 miles long when it's done. Cooks and volunteers from over 50 restaurants will pool their resources to make it happen. It will take 12-hours to make and be filled with 3-tons of fish and a half-ton of beans.
The Guinness Book will be on-hand to certify the concoction. (Still) -
