Small-town politics:
ABC News says that a pair of trademark applications filed by SARAH PALIN and her daughter, BRISTOL, failed to get approved because mother and daughter both forgot to sign their applications.
The Palins apparently wanted to protect their names for (quote) "educational and entertainment services, namely, providing motivational speaking services in the field of life choices" according to the rejected applications.V-Day Alert:
With Valentine's Day a week from today, the gimmicks are out there. In Vail, CO, a Valentine's package includes first class airline tickets for two, dinner for two, a rose-petal bath, a couples massage and an engagement ring.
Price of the package: $29-thousand, but the engagement ring is worth $20 grand.
Editor's note: The New Jersey version of this might be more affordable. If ya can get there yourself, we got coupons for Denny's, a room with a lumpy mattress at the Johnny Goomba Motel, a few smacks from a couple of longshoreman and a cement-shoe bath in the East River. If ya get back from that, we got a nice cubic zirconium. (Maiman)Trash talk and satellite dish:
Warning: note sexual content.
Is CHARLIE SHEEN ready to ditch his highly-successful gig on "Two and a Half Men" for a future in porn? AbsoluteNow.com reports one of his party buddies --a triple-X actress named "Felony"-- claims the star has already filmed for an adult movie and wants to start his own naughty empire.
Editor's Note/Phone Starter: Well, it's nice that Chuck has such big aspirations --what would you do if ditching the nine-to-five gig was an option? (Lee)Like you really care:
(Cue "Love theme from Romeo and Juliet"): JOHN HINCKLEY is in love again.
Hinckley, who shot and wounded then-President RONALD REAGAN to impress JODIE FOSTER, has now fallen in love with former psychiatric patient CYNTHIA BRUCE. For the record, he's 55; she's a decade younger at 45.
They have apparently been dating since last October and were recently spotted (and photographed) sharing snacks and soda on the grounds of St Elizabeth's Hospital, outside Washington, DC.TORI SPELLING is looking a little flatter. According to Star magazine, a plastic surgeon, who hasn't treated the actress, says that it appears that she's had her D cup implants removed and looks like a more natural C cup. (Myers)
Grace notes:
Former THIN LIZZY guitarist GARY MOORE is dead. The BBC said he was found yesterday in a hotel room on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Gary was 58. He was born in Belfast, Ireland, and though he had a very successful solo career, Gary will always be remembered for his time in Thin Lizzy. He joined the band in 1973 when guitarist ERIC BELL quit, but that stay only lasted four months. Four years later, Gary was back to play on Lizzy's "Black Rose" album. He was the guitarist in GREG LAKE's band and played on his two solo albums. Gary spent most of the last 20 years playing the blues, and his most recent album was 2008's "Bad for You Baby." (Marino)
Look what I found:
A 7-year-old boy in England tried to buy a 110-thousand dollar Harrier jump-jet on eBay.
According to Orange.co.uk, the kid hit the 'buy it now' button before his dad realized what had happened. The father had to quickly pick up the phone and call the sellers, an aviation firm called Jet Art. A spokesperson for the company said, "His dad rang up and profusely apologized to us, so it's still for sale."
The British-made jet was decommissioned in 1997. The seller says, whoever buys it, would need to spend millions to make it operational again. (Still)
