The 411:
Forbes' annual list of the world's wealthiest individuals is out today, and Microsoft founder BILL GATES is no longer on top.
The new list features Mexican "tycoon" CARLOS SLIM as the world's richest man with Bill Gates at number two.
According to one wealth research firm, "it wouldn't be a competition" if Gates hadn't "discovered philanthropy." But Gates has given away $28 billion, or almost a third of his wealth, leaving him with a meager $49 billion. (Slim is sitting on $60 billion.)
WARREN BUFFETT is the bronze medalist with $47 billion. He and Gates have both spent the last few years giving away money and urging other filthy rich folks to part with their cash. (Maiman)Guilty Pleasures:
No winner in last night's drawing for the Mega Millions Lottery. That means Friday night's drawing is valued at $151 million ($94.3 million cash value). Mega Millions is played in 42 states and Washington DC. Chances of winning the big prize are 1 in 175.7 million.
Earlier this month there were pictures posted of WHITNEY HOUSTON and BOBBY BROWN's daughter, BOBBI KRISTINA, apparently showing her snorting drugs. She says the pictures were doctored.
Yesterday, another startling item: MediaTakeOut.com says they were approached by somebody wanting to sell them a "freaky" and "explicit" sex tape of Bobbi, who just turned 18 over the weekend.
The web site turned them down cold, saying that it's illegal to sell, or post explicit material of a child under 18 --and Bobbi had to have been 17 when the tape was made.
But this doesn't mean somebody won't take their chances to make money off of it.Grace notes:
PETE WENTZ wants joint and physical custody of his son. "Access Hollywood" says court papers filed by the FALL OUT BOY bassist this week answer divorce papers filed last month by his soon-to-be-ex-wife, ASHLEE SIMPSON. She is also seeking joint and physical custody of two-year-old BRONX MOWGLI, with Pete only allowed visitation rights. Ashlee also wants spousal support, for Pete to pay her legal fees, and for a judge to legally return her name back to Ashlee Nicole Simpson. Pete thinks they each pay their own legal fees, and he's not asking for spousal support. The couple was married for three years. (Marino)
Stupid people, stupid places:
A 74-year-old man has bagged the Guinness world record for collecting the most airline sick bags.
That'd be NIEK VERMEULEN of the Netherlands, who has collected 6,016 barf-bags from 1,142 different airlines in 160 countries.
The London Metro says he started collecting them when he made a bet with a friend to see who could accumulate the most of any one item and register a world record. He was 34 then, so this is a 40-year project.
His favorite bag comes from the NASA Space Shuttle Columbia. It spent 16 days in space. No word on how he got hold of that.
"I'm old now, he says, "and my medical situation is best described as 'the time is coming," so I've started looking for a successor to take over my collection."
Editor's note: Man, if you ever wanted to find the shortest line in the store...
--He wants someone to take over his collection? Don't look at me. That's just not my bag.
--Stand tall, sir! Stand tall!
--This makes my Barbie collection look kind of lame.
--Ya really wanna brag? Instead of collecting the bags, try collecting what goes IN them. Then talk tough. (Maiman)Slapshots:
The Bakersfield Condors minor league hockey team is having a Charlie Sheen themed night. This Saturday, if you bring a clean drug test, you get in free.
Dress like any Sheen movie character (or wear the hat he wears on the show) and your ticket will cost just $2.50.
And if you bring $2 million bucks --what Sheen got per episode of "Two and a Half Men"-- you can own the whole team.
First thousand males to show up get a Sheen face on a stick mask.
They're also making Sheen's two "goddesses" honorary captains for the game. They're a no-show for sure. (Maiman)
