Tomorrow is "Go Red for Women" Day. It's an event created by the American Heat Association to build awareness that heart disease is the number one killer among women of all ages. This tag line tends to get a once over because heart issues seem to be apart of our older generation. Not true, in fact I had heart disease due to some freaky bacteria the seeped it's way into a small leak in my aortic valve. This happened just after I had my second child. After months of harsh antibiotics I was healed to the point where even thought the disease was gone my valve was so weaken I needed it replaced. I had open-heart surgery when I was 35 years old. Up until that point I was healthy, ate right, exercised etc. Along the way I've learned that my heart story is small in significance to others who have endured much worse. The initial thought is that unhealthy people, those who don't take care of themselves get heart disease. Not true. Please build awareness with your audience, wear red tomorrow and remind her to get checked. The American Heart Associations website has a good quick heart healthy check list. www.Americanheart.org
