My girlfriend Vera has been suffering with horrible allergies this season. Personally, I take three different allergy medicines year-round to stay somewhat 'clear,' and even though this seems like a lot, there are more serious options. I recommended a typical allergy medicine to her and she said she wouldn't take it due to the side effects, of which I know nothing about. It's a common prescription that I've never had any problem with. Our discussion about possible treatments had her saying no to everything and finally saying 'My mother ruined me for that stuff." Her mother was absolutely against prescription medicines and would only allow her daughter to use holistic treatments. Right now those options are not working. I have no problem with taking something a doctor prescribes as long as I'm aware of what's involved; most pharmacies offer detailed info about any scrip they fill. My friend is choosing to suffer instead of try a new treatment. Mom is winning out over the doctor. And regardless of the fact that my friend (who is also a radio personality) is losing her voice due to these allergies she is sticking by the saying that "momma is always right."
