The Lesson In Hair

My daughter is getting her hair cut and I'm waiting for her. Kesha is pumping through the speakers, and I'm surrounded by cases filled with make-up, lotions and hair products. Refreshments are available, including coffee, water, wine and soda along with a small assortment of snacks. I'm very comfortable and the people watching is great. Another mother is sitting right next to the station where her daughter is getting a cut and color, this mom is counseling every move almost to the point of overprotection. But she's probably paying for it, so it's her prerogative. After a quick consult I retreat to the waiting room where now I'm enjoying the chatter of my daughter and her stylist as it filters through the music. They are talking about music and more music and both seem to be really enjoying each others company. They are young and fun and deserve each other. There's an empty chair next to the station they are at and I'm sure I'd be welcome to sit and join them, but really, isn't my job to get her ready to be in the world? This is not to demean the other mother, for all I know she's had a hair nightmare she's never gotten over, hence the protection. I'm enjoying the eavesdropping: they are now discussing the need for napping especially when in high school. Proof that I would add nothing to this conversation! I mean really, what's a nap?
By the way, her hair looks marvelous.
