Working out with the same group of people forms a unique bond of understanding. There is a shared knowledge, and your goal is similar. When you grow accustomed to seeing the same people punch through the same workout of choice there's an odd sense of comfort and familiarity.
The CrossFit gym and the hot yoga studio I attend both have a culture of people that support one another without any hidden motive. Both establishments want all who enter their gym to feel welcome and to leave feeling empowered, not defeated in any way.
All of our doors should be open this wide. It's good to see a smiling face when you're about to challenge yourself physically. Coming back to the same spot is like showing up at your regular favorite coffee shop, the more familiar the better.
Most of the fitness establishments I've been to welcome all, but as soon as you become a regular it becomes a much better experience. It's normal to feel detached in the beginning due to the unfamiliarity, or by some unnecessary expectation we place on ourselves, but once that support kicks in you'll may find yourself rowing or flowing or running to the finish.
Radio works this way with music and personality; it's comforting to listen and agree with our 'tribe,' that's why prepping for the day matters so much. Always ask: what are the top three things on her mind? This answer varies based on region, season, station, and person. We are so past the point of speaking to a mini-van driving soccer mom with 2.5 kids and a dog.
All of this to say: supportive situations tend to have a better outcome. So while prepping and performing your radio show ask yourself: are you giving to the listener the support needed to get finish that days work out and come back again tomorrow for more? On air burpees are optional. :)
