Heart disease is the leading killer of women in America. As per the American Heart Association, Heart Disease is a killer that strikes more women than men, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. While one in 31 American women dies from breast cancer each year, heart disease is the cause of one out of every three deaths. That's roughly one death each minute. Yet heart disease and related risk factors are often missed in women. Symptoms are often different in women than in men, but women are less likely to receive the right care for some treatment for heart conditions.
February is Women's Heart Disease Awareness Month. I know there are many different causes and different colored ribbons seeking on air attention, but this is a heavy truth. Put some love on your air by having the resources necessary to encourage a woman towards great heart health. Eating, exercising, and regular physicals are all apart of the conversation. Sure, we touch on these lifestyle needs often, but this is the month to really utilize all the resources at the ready. This is a critical, caring piece for any show. As a survivor of heart disease, I urge you to seek the stories on this as mine alone is filed with surprise, hope, and healing. Your listener is worth it. Here's a good source to start with.
