Herd immunity. It doesn't sound very attractive, does it?
I wait and watch for my COVID vaccine number to come up, hoping it's sooner than later. Why every state has a different vaccine approach is beyond my logic, but regardless, it's tough to deal with.
A friend in Portland, an elementary teacher the other just finished chemo, and another in San Francisco received vaccines by default. I am thrilled for them. Another friend has a pharmacist as a neighbor, he bought home a vial of the vaccine for their skiing club of 20 people. I'm less thrilled about that.
Meanwhile, I show up at sites offering the vaccine in hopes there may be an extra, but to no avail yet. Facebook groups offer tips, like waking up early with the hope of scoring a slot; for me, this has not worked yet, patience remains a virtue.
When I get frustrated, I remember the folks who show up with their elderly parents, this instantly grabs my heart. Please clear the way for them, and while you're at it, make space for my insulin-dependent, type-1 diabetic daughter. How is she not considered at risk?
As I said, the protocol is hard to swallow. With post-vaccine illnesses ranging from a sore arm to a fever, even the antibodies can't guarantee us consistency.
This pandemic has groomed us for regrouping, stillness, and change. It feels like we are running a race together, finishing at different times and entering a new workspace knowing less than we did in 2019.
Headlines can affect her mood. The music you play, and the things you say offer some of the most normal moments in her day. Gaining access to the herd is going to take a while... help keep up the normalcy.
Here's to herd immunity! I'm @Bethbacall
