Credit Shock

In New York City the smell of fall is in the air. Flip flops are still flipping across 42nd street, but the inevitable change of seasons is becoming evident. Plaid shirts, hoodies, corduroy and biker boots don most window displays and ladies in short shorts and sundresses are shopping. In fact, I see people shopping all the time wherever I go. I'm not sure what's going on with Mr. Recession, but goods and services are happening. At a Target store this morning the woman's cart in front of me had clothes for her entire family, a case of apples, shampoo, car oil, a bathroom mat, 2 DVD's a lamp and a gift card. At the mall the Apple store is consistently packed with shoppers and Old Navy was packed as well, I would have been included in their total sales for the day but my credit card company derailed me. Why is it that credit card companies seem to get to make the rules but barely have to abide by a standard of etiquette? They put a halt on my card due to unusual activity. I had been on vacation the previous week and yes there was more activity than usual but not enough to stop my card. I hadn't been informed with a phone call and I hadn't maxed my limit. I was shocked when the clerk told me my card had been declined. I stepped out of line to call my bank and they pretty much told me what I just told you. I appreciate that they are protecting me from identity theft but shouldn't I be told when my card is not usable? Talk about finding out the hard way. On air surprises should not make her work for something. They should be gifts that surprise and delight not cause stress. And you might want to think twice before you tell her to "charge it"

So far Ann's two elementary-aged children have attended nine birthday parties this year. She tries to spend no more than $20-$30 a party, however when all gift's are added up, she found that she spent approximately $400.00 -$500.00 (just so her kids can attend the parties they are invited to)! This DOES NOT include how much she'll spend on her own child's birthday. How much do birthdays cost her?
