Back to school night is an opportunity for parents to get a glimpse as to what their child will be doing for the school year. Parents go to school and in lapsed time run through their kids schedule. It's a good way to support your community and child; by being aware of what they are doing and learning. On this night, you meet the teacher who gives a run down as to what will happen in the classroom. Attendance is taken, smiles and emails are exchanged and a judgement call happens. The seats graduate with each grade and it is quite humorous to see who can or cannot fit in their child's desk. Its hard not to draw an immediate conclusion after meeting a specific teacher for the few alloted minutes and this reminds me what it might be like when a new listener checks us out on the air. First impressions are a big deal. Regardless if my kid is telling me that a certain teacher has it out for them or isn't fair. Crack the mic with confidence and focus give yourself a picture of a devoted mom sitting in a tiny desk just waiting to hear what you have to say. Make sure she knows that you are there no matter what with an agenda that has her in mind and that this will be the best school year ever. Hold off on explaining detention and give her some extra recess time and come report card time you should be looking at some A's.
Tomorrow is September 11. Never Forget.
