That's a Crock

Nationwide women are crock pot cooking; single she's and those with large families love this magical pot that offers a hot cooked meal at the end of the day. It does take some preparation, but most if not all will tell you it's worth it. There are different sized crock pots from the standard 4 quart capacity to the mongo size big enough for a turkey.

On chilly days I'll just heat up some apple cider in the crock pot and leave it simmering for anyone who might like a cup. I lovingly set some cinnamon sticks and mugs next to said pot; I know how "Martha Stewart" of me.

Finding a good crock pot recipe is hard as this type of cooking can really pull the flavor out of a cut of meat. Most recipes try to fix that by adding a mass amount of sodium in the form of canned soup. It's not usually successful.

When a 'keeper" is found it's quickly passed around amongst friends and usually tried within a few days. Crockpotcooking.com has some keepers and I'll share one of mine for the best pulled pork, ever. Just take a piece of pork; shoulder or butt and rub with oats or coarse salt, pepper and some cayenne. Place inside a crock pot and pour a mixture of 1/2 cup water. 3 tablespoons of cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons of worsheshire sauce on top. Cover and let cook for as long as you can, usually about 6-8 hours. When it's beyond fork tender shred it and put it on a bun or salad with a desired sauce. It's too easy not to make. So make it, take a picture and put it on your blog so she can do the same. That's what a good friend would do.
