Candy

My tweens came home with enough candy in their trick or treat bags to feed a well attended elementary school. Their five hours of going door to door really paid off, but even they know consuming all that sugar is not healthy for them. It was more about the gathering of the goodies and being with friends for them. Costumes weren't even a big deal this year. After collecting old remote controls from friends this past month I made my youngest daughter a "control freak" costume by hot gluing them on a funky silver spray-painted sweatshirt. My other daughter opted for a bought costume, something that was unheard of during my childhood and went as a Star Trek crew member.
I have a new problem now with all this candy is in my house, which is readily available with my favorites calling out my name. Nestles Ten Thousand Dollar bars, Kit Kat's and Hershey's Cookie and Cream bars are beckoning my waistline. So, I did some research in hopes that it would help my lack of self control. I found out that Three Musketeer's and Tootsie Rolls are lower in calories than most fun-sized treats and that the average Halloween bucket holds about 250 pieces of candy and 9,000 calories. Peppermint oil is recommended; supposedly a whiff wards off cravings. Well, I didn't have any peppermint oil handy so I substituted with a York Peppermint Patty and I found the results to be quite tasty.

- Purchasing a party present is tricky; it really depends on the social setting and length of the friendship. Many mothers try to keep up in this department and have a stash of
