Streaming video has surpassed file-sharing in Internet traffic for the first time. The difference, according to a report by Cicso <http://tinyurl.com/25vhcfz> , is that file sharing has dropped significantly in the last year, while video streaming has continued to increase. The Cisco report says that file sharing has dropped from 38% of broadband traffic to 25%. Meanwhile, video viewing has increased from 25% to 16%.
1/3 of the top 50 websites now are video sites, but one of the biggest contributors is Netflix, which as we pointed out recently, accounts for 20% of all web traffic in peak hours. The peak time for video is from 9PM to Midnight. In that period there is twice as much video viewing than there is, on average, at any other time.
