The Dress

Many of Hollywoods elite are sleeping in as you read this. Last nights Oscars offered them parties, trophies, photo opportunities and Wolfgang Puck's famous food. Publicists were harried, personal assistants crazed and photographers were in their glory. The build up to the Oscars includes not only the making of the movies that are up for top honors, but the regimen many stars go through to get ready for this night. Stylists, designers, estheticians, nutritionist, make up artists, and hair dressers are all in high demand, working non stop to make sure their clients 'show well.' For me, it's all about the fashion and who wore what on the red carpet.I honestly don't care "who" they wore but how they looked in it. I will be looking at celebrity pictures all day just to check out the dresses and to see who wore it right.
This was a good year for me, I saw three of the movies nominated for best picture; usually I don't seen any. It's hard for a working mom to get out to the movies, especially with her husband. The cost of the movie alone is a deterrent, add in a babysitter (if she can secure one) and you've easily got a fifty dollar plus night out; dinner is usually optional. Seeing a movie with a girlfriend happens once in a while, but it's gotta be a great chick flick. Taking kids to the movies is the easiest, yet least adult option. Even if cost is not part of the equation the time involved really adds up, so it's got to be something she really wants to see.
If given the choice, going out to eat, a savory adult meal comes before a movie. However, there are now movie theaters that are serving dinner while the movie plays. This option meets mixed reviews. First, there's a service charge just for entering the theater, add on the price of the ticket and food and cha-ching, it better be some great food and entertainment. Maybe theater's should go the route of IKEA and offer babysitting.
