My brother Ray and his lovely wife; Lara only allow their kids to watch television on special occasions and together as a family for movie night on the weekends. I knew these were his rules, so I wasn't surprised during my recent visit to his house to wake and see his sons (ages 8 & 11) on the couch on a Saturday morning reading books. Really, it was 8 AM and they were reading about how toys worked while playing with Legos. Meanwhile, I'm silently going through Cartoon and Food Network withdrawal. Ray and I were not raised with this restriction growing up, we had limitations but still, Saturday morning cartoons and sugared cereal were sometimes the highlight of my week. Ray feels that there's too much trash on Television and he'd rather his sons not absorb this. I'm an "all things in moderation" believer. When we were growing up eating out at a restaurant was a treat; we were not taken to eat out very much at all. Coming from a strict Italian family you were expected to cook all your meals from scratch. Restaurants were strictly used for celebrations like weddings and funerals. Honestly, when my brother and I were able to get around on our own we headed straight for the nearest McDonald's and ate ourselves into a fast food coma. Will this happen with his kids when they are able to make their own viewing choices? It's tough to say, as right now they are beautiful, well adjust boys who think bathroom humor is the best thing in the world. They don't seem to miss television. Their mother is a calm influence who fills the void with many books and puzzles and brownies. Ray and Lara watch television nightly after their sons are in bed. They like Modern Family and Parenthood along with the nightly news. Oddly their most recent purchase was a large flat screen television. They have even left the plastic coating on to help preserve it's newness. Methinks this TV will last a long time.

She Weight
Studies show that stress from being over-worked can lead to being obese and overweight. Many workers over eat and wrong food through their day and they ignore exercise. Yet employees that exercised and managed their stress maintained a healthy weight.
