Meeting up with a family that has small children at a restaurant is not the best way to spend quality time as the parents usually end up spending more time tending to the children and all their needs instead of engaging with their dinner party. Family friendly events that include simple opportunities like discounted family time at a zoo or an event complete with Crayola crayons can go over well.

On a personal note, one of the best was to connect with this family is to have them over to your house for a meal; baby proof ahead of time if necessary, but give the kids and the parents a safe place to be, where toys can be strewn and diapers can be changed, and where sippy cups will get lost and kids can not be too confined.
