Pixable did an interesting infographic recently that featured tidbits about the Facebook profile photo.
Some of the findings included the following:
- 10% of all Facebook photos are profile pictures.
- Women typically upload a new profile photo every two weeks. Men, every three weeks.
- The number of profile photos posted per Facebook user per year has tripled since 2006.

It got me to thinking about ideas that you can execute to help people look their best on Facebook and build some great experiences, too.
How about working with a local professional photographer and have them come along for events/appearances to snap a professional profile picture for listeners who stop by courtesy of the business and your station?
What about securing a once-in-a-lifetime photography session with the famous photographer who took an album cover or CD jacket picture of a big album on your playlist, snapped the photo of a musician featured on Rolling Stone or another national publication, and so on?
Feature a profile pic each day on your Facebook page of someone that "likes" you and acknowledge them.
Hold an event with your local clients to discuss social media marketing and how you can assist them with these efforts and have a photographer on hand to snap a professional profile pic for free. They will not only learn some useful social skills but look good because of you.
How about a "Profile Pics" segment where you feature two photos of the same personality, a fan, an artist, etc. and allow users to choose which one should be used on the/their profile.
Have people nominate friends as the "Profile Candy" (great looking guy or girl) by uploading or tagging a photo to your page. This could even become a great event.
Remember Glamour Shots from the '80s and early '90s? How about "Profile Professionals" as a new way of reinventing this photo business?
Photos are big on social media and you can be of great service to your users and fans with ideas like these and more.
