I am a huge fan of the A&E show, "Duck Dynasty".
The reality TV series is not only entertaining because of the rag-to-riches story line, dysfunctional "redneck" personalities, and a deep-loving family message, but it scores again and again by understanding how to extend the simple, but well-defined mission and personality across every touch point to build culture around the show. Each moment drives anticipation and tune in that keep fans engaged for more.
It's such a simple, but intelligent strategy that really makes a social impact.
When the series returned for a new season, the momentum that was already building around a great mission to weave the show throughout big moments like the Super Bowl and The Grammys ignited as the social response team scored a huge success and even beat "American Idol" with social hits for the night!
You have the same opportunity, but it requires:
- a mission that is easy to understand and simple to express
- a commitment to not just being "on" but fully alive in the moment
- the flexibility through using the tools and mechanics in an intelligent way that build interactivity, collaboration, and co-creation
When you become centered around this type of mission, as the folks at "Duck Dynasty" clearly are, you ignite with creative possibilities like this one:
The result is that I, and so many others, look forward to what happens next.
It's not easy, but it becomes easier with this type of focus ... and to borrow a Si line, that's just the facts, Jack!
