Dead: Solomon Burke, soul legend. He performed right up until the end, dying on a plane to Amsterdam on his way to a show. He never had the kind of hit that everyone would recognize, but "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" and "Cry To Me" were hits and covered by others. I always remember him from someone telling the story of going to the Apollo and seeing Solomon Burke sing, then walking out to find Burke with a little grill cooking and selling flank steak on the sidewalk outside the theater.
