So, two Massachusetts towns had to cut the position of school librarian out of their budgets, effectively closing the libraries. Then volunteers stepped in to keep the libraries open for the kids. But that's getting blocked by the teachers' unions. Really. The unions filed grievances because, the unions claim, you can't just put non-professionals in there. Why, checking out books is only for experts to attempt. Also, if volunteers do it, unions lose a paying job they can dole out. The kids? Who cares about the kids?
