It's Your Fault For Wanting To Get From One Place To Another
-
The default position of politicians needing to raise cash is to stick the public with more taxes and fees. This has not gotten past the "green" folks, who would like to accomplish their goals the same way. In Central California's San Joaquin Valley, the air quality sucks, and the board in charge of regulating that is proposing taxing drivers $10-$24 a year in additional car registration fees as a penalty for being responsible for all the smog by driving and stuff. They blame you. The real polluters are factories, but the board doesn't want to hit them with additional taxes, so the public will pay instead. As if the public isn't taxed enough. (New York Times)
