Spoken Like Someone Who Doesn't Have To Drive
-
This professor styles himself a "parking guru," and his main thing is to insist that the reason for many of the problems --congestion, sprawl, wasteful energy use and air pollution -- facing cities everywhere is free parking. He says that when parking if free, more cars are on the roads cruising for spaces, or something like that. He bikes to work (at 72), which should tell you where he's coming from. Is it even practical to force people onto public transportation where there's not much public transit? More transit will cost a lot of money, and it'll come from the people. We can't pay for everything. (Los Angeles Times)
