Just Make M&Ms The Default Placebo
-
What's in a placebo? That's actually an important question. A new study notes that what we assume are just sugar pills might contain other things that can skew the control group results in scientific studies. Example: If you're testing a cholesterol drug and the placebo used includes, say, olive oil (which some apparently do), the comparison numbers won't be fair. A sugar pill might not be a good choice for a diabetes drug story. You get the idea. (Los Angeles Times)
