Maybe There's Hope

This story about the sale by the giant SuperValu grocery empire of L.A.-area gourmet market chain Bristol Farms isn't here just because the chain was home-grown from my neck of the woods (the first store, still thriving, is just up the hill from me). No, it's that it was a local, small business that ended up swallowed up by larger companies -- Albertson's, then SuperValu -- and managed to end up back in smaller, local hands. Do you have faith that other businesses will end up this way? Specifically, radio? Will the days of local, even mom-and-pop ownership come back? (Los Angeles Times)
