Maybe They Should Be Playing Flag Football Instead
-
The hit on the Colts' Austin Collie that put Collie in the locker room and drew a harsh unnecessary-roughness penalty on the Eagles' Quintin Mikell is being debated now as an example of awful officiating in the wake of all the talk about head injuries. The replays clearly showed that Collie had already caught the ball and taken a few steps before three Eagles converged on him, and there was no helmet-to-helmet hit. It was rough, it was violent, but it was legal. And there were other plays in this game called the same way, including a running-into-the-kicker call when there was no contact at all. Are NFL officials under orders to call things overly tight? And if so, can anyone play football this way? (ESPN)
