But Nothing Could Prevent That Song, Unfortunately
-
Wait. You're saying that James Blunt is claiming that he prevented World War III from breaking out. James Blunt the singer. As in "You're Beautiful." THAT James Blunt. And he's serious? Yep. Seems that he was a British soldier in Kosovo in 1999 when he rejected an order from U.S. General Wesley Clark -- yeah, THAT Wesley Clark -- to attack Russian troops at Pristina airfield. He was the lead officer of 30,000 NATO troops, and he said no, backed by his General, who said "I'm not going to have my soldiers be responsible for starting World War III." They encircled the airfield instead, and the Russians, needing food and supplies, relented after a few days. And then he recorded "You're Beautiful," so it didn't end well. (BBC)
