Just Ban Tobacco Already. That's What They Really Want, Anyway
-
You know the stereotype: African-Americans smoke menthol cigarettes. You also know that flavored cigarettes are, to some people, an appeal to kids, although menthol is hardly a kid flavor (unless you were really into Hall's Mentholyptus or Ricola). Now a group wants the government to ban menthol cigarettes. But if menthol doesn't make cigarettes more damaging than they already are, can you ban a flavor? What about the adults who, having made a conscious decision to contract lung cancer... er, smoke, have decided that they prefer the flavor of, say, Kools? And where do we draw the line -- do we ban salt and ketchup with french fries because they make fries taste better and fries are fatty and high-calorie-high-carb? Can we ban Bud Light With Lime?
